Audain Art Museum is seeking a Registrar to join their team and assist with all aspects of the permanent art collection and Special Exhibitions, including registration, care, maintenance and security.

The position supports the AAM’s Director & Chief Curator and the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Curator to confirm all aspects of the physical and records management of the permanent art collections, as well as incoming and outgoing loaned exhibitions and artworks.

JOB SUMMARY:
  • Permanent Full Time, 37.5 hours per week.
  • $55,000 – $60,000 per year to start.
  • Vacation entitlement: 6% (3 weeks per year).
  • Health Benefits: eligible after 3 months.
  • Well Benefit: $1,000 per year.
  • Transit Allowance: $40.00 per month.

THE PERFECT CANDIDATE – Qualifications & Skills:
  • A university degree in Art History, Education, Museum Studies, History, Visual Arts or a related discipline is highly desirable;
  • One to two years’ experience working in a museum, art gallery or cultural setting desirable.
  • Criminal Records Check will be required by the successful candidate.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of art museum methods and techniques, such as those relating to the identification, and cataloguing of art.
  • Knowledge of computerized recordkeeping methods and techniques related to the work performed.
  • Knowledge of the value and significance of art.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques applicable to the display of objects.
  • Ability to conduct research and to prepare reports, didactics, and related informational material.
  • Ability to implement and administer a variety of procedures related to the accession, storage, handling and display of art museum objects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to represent the gallery on external committees as required.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Keyboarding skills and ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook, the Internet, and other computer programs as required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, maintain program and administrative priorities, and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Assists the curators with all aspects of collection management: documentation, condition reports, care, conservation, security, and storage.
  • Coordinates all shipping arrangements for incoming and outgoing art related to the Permanent Collection and Special Exhibitions.
  • Recordkeeping, cataloguing, research, and data entry tasks; records management tasks by ensuring collection information entry, updating and maintaining collection database, images and records.
  • Assists the curators with the development and installation of AAM’s Special Exhibitions.
  • Coordinate activities of staff members and contractors to ensure smooth, safe and efficient operation.
  • Prepares support materials for grant, sponsorship, marketing, programming and retail activities, as well as didactic material for exhibitions and publications.
  • Ensure loans management, object packing and logistics of touring exhibitions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; as directed, and attends meetings when required.
  • Catalog and maintain artwork credits and descriptions for ongoing public and promotional use, ensuring the curatorial integrity of the collection is preserved.
  • Conduct research, as required, in order to enhance engagement production and assist with providing information to Docents.
  • Assist, as required, with the delivery of collection tours to the public.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Other duties as required.
SCHEDULE DETAILS:
  • Permanent Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, in person position at the Museum. Ability to have a flexible schedule.
SALARY / WAGE RANGE:
  • $55,000 – $60,000 per year to start.
