The WHA Building Maintenance Technician will complete a variety of repairs,  maintenance, and inspections at Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) tenanted properties and grounds including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and drywall remediation to ensure WHA properties remain safe, secure and in proper working condition for residents and visitors. A valid BC Driver’s License is required.

Start Date is February 3, 2025.

  • Salary Range: $27.00 to $35.00 CAD per hour – based on certification, training and experience.

THE COMPANY:
Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) is seen as a leader in the development, management, and operation of a robust and community-supported affordable housing program for the local workforce.  Whistler is one of only a few resort communities in North America with an organization such as the WHA.  Embracing the goal of housing at least 75% of employees locally within Whistler, the Whistler Housing Authority continues to maintain and grow its inventory of employee restricted housing so that secure long-term rental and ownership accommodations are available and affordable for local income earners and retirees within Whistler. The WHA currently owns and administers an inventory of 375 rental units in different property locations throughout the municipality of Whistler, and Whistler’s inventory of employee restricted housing continues to increase to address the needs of our community. THE PERFECT
CANDIDATE:
  • The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for managing the repairs and maintenance of WHA’s tenanted buildings and surrounding grounds to ensure WHA properties remain safe, secure and in proper working condition for residents and visitors.
  • The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with good interpersonal skills who enjoys working independently and with a team. The preferred candidate is committed to the mission and vision of the Whistler Housing Authority and fostering a community where Whistler’s workforce can be housed in safe, secure, affordable housing.
  • The Building Maintenance Technician will be a liaison between the WHA’s Property Management team and WHA Management, reporting directly to the WHA Capital Projects Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
INCLUDE:
  •  Complete a variety of building repairs, maintenance, and inspections at WHA properties which includes carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and drywall remediation – except when a licensed contractor is required by code.
  • Undertake limited construction repair and renovation projects commensurate with Maintenance Technician’s skills and certifications and according to prepared specifications.
  • Perform or coordinate regular servicing and upkeep of building structures and systems such as HVAC, dryer vents and duct work, roof maintenance, emergency lighting, fire systems, window cleaning, carpet cleaning and waste removal.
  • Coordinate with the Capital Projects Manager and Property Manager the selection, purchase and installation of new equipment and fixtures necessary for the maintenance and upkeep of the units and buildings.
  • Conduct regular building walkthroughs, spot checks and inspections to ensure a safe, secure, clean and healthy building environment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of the parkades and exterior of the buildings, including landscaping, snow and ice clearing are being well maintained by subtrades.
  • Assist with seasonal switchover of heating, cooling, and mechanical systems.
  • Utilize a computerized property management system for maintaining maintenance records and schedules and work and purchase orders.
