Join an exciting team of people dedicated to making sports and recreation experiences come to life for athletes with physical/cognitive disabilities and neurodiversity. For over 20 years, the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program Society has been removing barriers to adventure for people with disabilities and neurodiversity, offering a full range of adaptive sports programs and a dynamic learning centre in Whistler, BC. Canada. We currently operate in Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and Mount Currie. We also serve locals from across B.C. and visitors from Canada and around the world.With over 100+ dedicated volunteers and 50+ coaches, we provide over 3,000 lessons a year and 18 different programs.

Summary
  • Full-time, temporary from May 29th to Aug 25th.
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • $21 per hour depending on experience.
Wage Range
  • $21 per hour.

Schedule
  • This is a temporary role from May 29, 2023 – August 25, 2023.
  • The Summer Program Leader will fulfill 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week.
  • Whistler Adaptive Sports runs programs 7 days a week, so some weekend work may be necessary.
  • There are no evening shifts aside from the occasional special event.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to instruct individuals in group-based outdoor sport and recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of a variety of activities including; hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, SUP,
    physical literacy, strength and conditioning and adaptive sports. A willingness to learn to learn these sports is essential.
  • Some knowledge of various physical disabilities and neurological diversities is an asset.
  • Preference given to those who are currently certified in CPR B and First Aid (will include in training if not current).
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft 365 an asset.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident between 15 and 30 years of age, as the position is funded through a Canada Summer Jobs grant.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • As a requirement, the successful applicant must obtain a satisfactory criminal record check prior to
    beginning employment.
Responsibilities
  • The Summer Program Leader plays an integral role in the summer operations of Whistler Adaptive. In the summer, we offer hiking, mountain biking (2 & 3 wheel), paddle sports (canoeing, SUP and kayaking), sailing, rowing, yoga, strength & conditioning, and more to people with cognitive and physical disabilities and neurodiversity.
  • The Summer Program leaders will help our coaches assess students, determine adaptive equipment needs, set goals and plan lessons, lead activities, document progress, maintain records, and assist our coaches to make recommendations for future programming.
  • They will also assist with general administration, marketing, and fundraising as needed.
  • This position will report to the Executive Director.
